Eagle River is part of the Municipality of Anchorage and is home to people who love the great outdoors, living in a country setting, and enjoying a small town commmunity with all the urban ammenities. Given its proximity to the military bases the community of Eagle River is a choice residential community for military members with excellent schools, dining, and great community events.
The town was named after the Eagle River which is sourced by glaciers in the Chugach National Park. This wild and scenic park calls for adventurers where you can hike, ski, and bike deep into the park, rent yurts and cabins, and see breath taking feats of nature! The historic Crow's Pass trail running from the Eagle River Nature Center (located at the end of Eagle River Rd) all the way to Girdwood is a major attraction for Eagle River visitors and locals.
The face of the town has been changing over the years as more business and job opportunities surface with the opening of major retail stores such as Wal-Mart and Fred Meyer's. With the population approximately 30,000 in the Eagle River/Chugiak area growing I'm sure we'll see more and more industry branching to Eagle River. This is especially apparent with the University of Alaska Anchorage opening a classroom site in Eagle River.
Major community events bring people from all across South Central Alaska to Eagle River to enjoy Summer and Winter activities. The Summer Solstice Festival kicks off with a Walk/Run/Biking event from the Native American Culture Center to the heart of Eagle River. Also, shortly after Independence Day, the Bear Paw Festival. The Highland Games take place at Lion's Park to show off the diversity of the community, highlighting Scottish culture, fun, and games.
